The 20th Phoenix Leader Education Program Seminar was held

The 20th Phoenix Leader Education Program Seminar with the main theme of “Protection of people and the environment in the event of a large nuclear accident: the update of ICRP Publications 109 and 111” was held on June 26, 2019. Dr. Jacques Lochard, a professor of Nagasaki University, vice-chair of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) and visiting professor of Hiroshima University, was invited as a lecturer.

After the opening address by Prof. Nobuyuki Hirohashi of Research Institute for Radiation Biology and Medicine, Dr. Jacque Lochard spoke on the issues of changing people over time due to the radiation disasters, and many aspects of radioprotection to the environment and the responses, sharing his experiences from the accidents of nuclear power plants in Chernobyl and Fukushima. He also emphasized the importance of respecting the decision-making by individuals and the communities.

QA session actively took place after the lecture, and it provided a great informative opportunity for the participants such as the program students and the university researchers. This seminar was held by connecting two campuses of Hiroshima University through teleconference system.
