【Sep. 23rd-26th, 2020】Short-term Fieldwork was conducted successfully

A short-term fieldwork was conducted for four days in Fukushima from September 23 (Wednesday) to 26 (Saturday), 2020. The purpose of this fieldwork was to grasp the current state of reconstruction from radiation disaster in the affected area and to find the issues from a cross-disciplinary perspective.

The cross-disciplinary fields are;

  • Field for protecting lives from radiation disaster
  • Field for protecting the environment from radioactive contamination
  • Field for protecting children and the integrity of communities after a disaster

 

Participants learned about:

  • Activities of Minamisoma Municipal General Hospital after the disaster
  • Psychological effects of the radiation disaster
  • Existing issues and efforts for the reconstruction of the affected communities
  • Condition of decontamination in Fukushima
  • Experience of measuring radioactive substances in agriculture, forestry and fishery products in Iitate Village in Fukushima

and visited;

  • The Great East Japan Earthquake and Nuclear Disaster Memorial Museum
  • TEPCO Decommissioning Archive Center
  • TEPCO Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station

 

Through such trans-disciplinary learning opportunities, students cultivate a broad perspective, and find the issues for the recovery from radiation disaster, and are going to accelerate to research based on their own expertise to solve the issues in the future.
